Modularity and Interoperability of ASEM Solutions


SOFTPLC AND HARDWARE SCALABILITY TURN ASEM SYSTEMS INTO POWERFUL IEC 61131-3 CONTROLLERS 

With excellent know-how in hardware, firmware and software development, ASEM is able to offer solutions designed with modular, object-oriented and flexible development tools supported by real-time simulations and with scalable performance based on CPU choice. ASEM also ensures data integration between different automation software solutions and offering both visualization and control in a single platform. ASEM systems base their PLC functionality on the well-established and widely used CODESYS SoftPLC, with a highly efficient implementation of version 3.5 that guarantees deterministic execution of PLC control logic with Win64 and Linux operating systems allowing full transportability of projects between different operating systems and hardware platforms without the need for intervention on the project code. SoftPLC systems thus provide a high level of connectivity and interoperability for managing and storing significant amounts of data. The CODESYS platform, like all traditional PLCs, provides a development environment for the creation of projects, which are then executed by the runtime, and the availability of the most popular industrial fielbuses for communication with field peripherals.

Automation-ready systems

Several ASEM systems can be programmed with a softPLC development tool to become true ARM Cortex or x86 processor-based controllers. 


In fact, ASEM systems have hardware and software components that can support and optimize the use of the softPLC. Many ASEM iPCs are certified for Real-Time use.

Hardware components

MRAM: nonvolatile RAM using magneto-resistive technology to store the retentive variables 

µUPS: UPS based on superCap technology to ensure sufficient power to store the retentive values within the MRAM 

ECC Inbound: ability to enable ECC mode on the RAM for the purpose of detecting and correcting bit-level errors during reading and writing data 

HW Commands: run/stop/clear commands managed by HW buttons 

Diagnostics: RX/TX diagnostic LEDs for checking system status. RS232/422/485 ports reserved for fieldbus communication 

Fieldbus: The x86 motherboards of some systems released by ASEM provide a dedicated embedded slot for the installation of NETcoreX boards in Master and Slave versions to manage the main industrial fieldbuses

Real-Time Systems: optimizations for iPCs

Cache Allocation Technology (CAT) 

ASEM has developed a Cache Allocation Technology (CAT) driver to optimize the use of Last Level Cache (LLC). Cache Allocation Technology allows cores and GPUs to be uniquely matched to a fraction of the cache. Thus, any interference with cores used for Real-Time applications can be eliminated.

Real-Time Optimization on BIOS

All ASEM PCs have a setting in the default settings for BIOS optimization for Real-Time systems. In a few seconds, with a simple click, you can configure the BIOS to minimize latency.

Remote Assistance

All ASEM industrial PCs and operator panels integrate UBIQUITY Runtime software for remote assistance. 

With UBIQUITY directly installed on the PC or HMI, an end-to-end VPN connection optimized for industrial communications can be established. 

You can then connect remotely to the device running CODESYS, with the ability to access the device's desktop directly. This allows you to make changes, make uploads and downloads of the application, and do softPLC support and maintenance tasks by connecting to the device from any remote location. Quite an advantage in terms of cost and time to reach the remote site!

Visualization

ASEM operator panels integrate proprietary visualization software. HMI software can be optionally integrated on all x86-based IPCs thus ensuring maximum scalability in computing power.

ASEM integrates the CODESYS Control Runtime System on the following systems:

ARM based embedded systems

Panel and Box iPC x86 based

ARM-based embedded systems

LP systems are ARM-based operator panels that integrate CODESYS, visualization software, and telecare software, making them true Ready to Automation systems. 


Being embedded systems, they are not suitable for hosting custom applications and proprietary software. 


Embedded systems are available with the most up-to-date CODESYS version tested by ASEM. In any case, upgrades or downgrades can be made to all CODESYS versions that fall within a certain range. Please refer to the table to identify the minimum and maximum supported CODESYS versions.


Panel and Box iPC x86 based

iPCs are available with the most up-to-date CODESYS version tested by ASEM. However, upgrades or downgrades can be made to all CODESYS versions that fall within a certain range. Please refer to the table to locate the minimum and maximum supported CODESYS versions. 


The µUPS, MRAM, switch, and led components on ASEM systems expose APIs, so they lend themselves to use by both CODESYS and other proprietary applications and software.


Licenses

Option to purchase iPCs and ASEM embedded systems with CODESYS software on board , choosing from different options for control and visualization. 

For iPCs, it is possible to order the system already equipped with the pre-installed and licensed packages, or to purchase softPLC licenses directly from the CODESYS store, choosing from different options for communication drivers, libraries and visualization options. In the latter case, installation of the softPLC will have to be done independently.

When purchasing iPCs or embedded systems with a CODESYS SoftPLC license preinstalled, the communication protocols in the table below are included.


Support

ASEM provides support on the systems on which CODESYS is installed, as well as hardware components (µUPS, MRAM, switches, LEDs) and communication stacks. Consulting is provided on the CODESYS development environment and runtime. 

No application support is provided on a project. SoftMotion, CNC, Target Visu and Web Visu applications are not directly supported by ASEM.
